The Vincennes University Board of Trustees unanimously approved a significant housing project aimed at providing opportunities for adult learners.
The project aims to renovate Godare Residence Hall into a living space for adult learners, specifically students who are on a work-study plan with companies such as Amazon or Walmart.
Previously, this role was filled by Vanderbaugh Residence Hall, which as part of the plan is going to also be renovated and will be reopened to the traditional student pool.
Current budget estimates are $35 million, with the current plan for financing to be from a bond sale, according to a press release issued by the university.
The Godare Hall renovation plans include converting the rooms into private dorms with bathrooms, kitchenettes with microwaves and refrigerators, and updated furniture. There are also plans to update the interior design of the building for a more modern style.
The Vanderbaugh Hall renovation plans include updating the private student restrooms and fitting both common areas and dorm rooms with new furniture.
Both halls will be closed during the upcoming fall semester and will remain closed until their grand opening. Morris Residence Hall will be reopened temporarily to accommodate displaced students.
Bidding on construction for Godare Hall is scheduled for September of 2026, with construction for Godare Hall scheduled to begin in December of 2026. Bidding for Vanderbaugh Hall is scheduled for September of 2026 and construction for the residence hall is to begin in January of 2028. Both halls are slated to be open for residency in 2028.
