The university’s Global Engagement program will host its second annual Diverse Abilities Fair on Tuesday.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to noon in the Jefferson Student Union. It is free and open to students who want to learn more about different physical, cognitive and developmental abilities.
The fair is being led by students in education professor Ann Herman’s education class. Throughout the event students will host interactive stations that focus on a variety of topics including ADHD, autism and many other diverse abilities. These stations are designed to help attendees better understand the perspectives of people with different needs and experiences with everyday life.
Global engagement hopes the event will encourage students to learn in a more hands on way. Instead of only reading about these topics, students attending the fair will have the chance to participate in activities, ask questions and have conversations with those leading each station. The goal is to create a welcoming environment where students can learn about inclusion and why it is important on a college campus.
Light snacks will also be available during the event.
As the Diverse Abilities Fair returns for its second year, Global Engagement hopes to see even more students attend and continue building awareness and understanding throughout the university community.
