Vincennes University hosted its eighth annual food drive with great success for Sandy’s Pantry.
With the help of the community, the pantry was able to collect 575 food and hygiene items, with $1,096 in cash donations. According to Nancy Irwin, “everyone is very driven by helping the students.”
The team behind the food drive gave faculty a bingo card that represented “specific student needs,” said Irwin.
Vincennes University faculty hold a food drive event once in August, and then one in the spring, with this one being a very successful drive, according
to Jennifer Compton.
“I think people understand if our students are hungry, they’re not gonna be able to concentrate. I think it’s a full circle type of thing. It’s like — if we can address that need, then that will help them succeed,” said Irwin.
Sandy’s Pantry is open to all students with a valid VU student ID at St. John’s United Church of Christ. They are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the first and last weeks of the month, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
