Vincennes University is celebrating the month of October with several spooky events.
The Jefferson Student Union Building from 6-9 p.m. on Oct. 23 will host a Movie Night, which will showcase the Disney’s newest Halloween flick, “Haunted Mansion.”
Students and staff are welcome to join, and free popcorn and drinks will be provided during the movie.
Also to celebrate the spooky season, a Monster Mash Halloween Costume Party will be held from 4:30- 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the Jefferson Student Union Building. There are no admission fees; students and staff are asked to dress up in fun costumes to celebrate the Halloween season. There will also be costume awards, food, and several prizes.
The fun will continue after the party at 7 p.m. at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center for students to sit and enjoy the play, “The Lighting Thief, ” a student production hosted by the Vincennes University Theatre and Music Department.
Also, if writing is something you enjoy, there is a scary story contest being held by the Writing Center, and the top three winners will receive prizes.
Requirements for the scary story contest are that you must be a VU student, the story must be 140 characters or less, must be theme-appropriate, and the work must be original. Scary stories are to be submitted to [email protected] no later than midnight on Oct. 22.
There will also be an event held after the winners are announced. That’s been set for 3-5 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the Shircliff Humanities Building, Room E229. The winners will reading their stories aloud. Anyone is welcome, and refreshments will be served.
