This fall semester, the Vincennes University Theatre Department will be putting on a production of “Little Shops of Horrors,” the department’s first musical back on campus.
The hit dark comical commercial success musical, based on the film by Roger Corman, follows a flower shop worker who takes on a robust carnivorous plant with a murderous string of events that take place.
Shows begin Oct. 30 and extend through Nov. 1 at the Red Skeleton Performing Arts Center.
“We were deciding on a large–scale musical, as we do every other fall,” said Director Jaclyn
Zimmerman. “We chose ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ due to its fun size and campy nature, and its cast size.”

Students are also subjected to think outside their boxes and to challenge themselves.
“’Little Shop of Horrors’ is unique for our students as it includes the challenge of puppet characters,” Zimmerman commented.
“I am most excited for the audience to see everything that our students have poured all their hard work and sweat into.”

Artistic Director Kendra Clauser commented on the upcoming production as well.
“A lot of students have wanted to do the show for a while,” Kendra said. “Once we figured out a plan and an affordable basis we decided to do it.”

The plays and musicals that are put on at the university are not only for the performance majors, but for anyone who wants to join.
“We have several majors involved in the musical, who work backstage for the show,” Kendra continued. “Students who are in theater usually are the singers, but there is room for anyone who wants to join.”
For students or faculty that want to be involved with the plays and musicals on campus, look for auditions in November for the winter production, as well as the spring production next semester.
