Recently a local prankster was banned from Vincennes University grounds.
A local, anonymous TikTok user had been uploading videos of simulated urination near campus buildings. This follows a trend of various other accounts producing similar videos on their own campuses, respectively.
This was brought to the attention of the Vincennes University Police Department, who acted swiftly on the matter.
“After we watched the videos several times and looked at the details of the video several times, before you know it, our algorithm was all of these other universities doing it, too,” said Police Chief Adam Daugherty.
Reports of the pranks first came in on Sept. 12, and the official investigation opened the following day.
The investigation was a simple matter for the police. Each location on campus where the suspect filmed and uploaded their content was checked on CCTV cameras, and the locations themselves were combed. It was determined early in the investigation that the person behind this was not a student, but rather a local community member in Vincennes.
“It was just good old-fashioned policework,” said Daugherty, as by Oct. 1 the suspect was interviewed in their home by campus police officers. There were no arrests or formal charges filed against them, as their urination pranks were actually just water.
After being interviewed, the prankster was forbidden to return to campus, or they would face trespassing charges.
Daugherty expressed his hopes that the community would continue to rally against people taking similar actions and that people would make smart decisions.
“The community doesn’t want these things happening,” said Daugherty, “When these things happen, we’re going to investigate them, and there’s going to be consequences for your actions.”
“Sometimes you have legal consequences.”
