COPE Student Support Services is planning a special event to help students learn more about the services they provide.

The “First-Generation Panel and Mentoring Luncheon” will take place Nov. 8. The university president, along with some faculty and staff members, will be present to share experiences and talk about the challenges that face first generation college students.

Hannah Tuemler, educational coach for COPE Student Support Services, said the program helps students who may need academic support, advising support or just an extra ear for someone who needs to talk. 

Tuemler said that when she was a freshman in college, she wished that something like this was around to help her with things she didn’t really know about until her junior year. 

The luncheon is a way to celebrate “ First Generation Celebration Day.” This day is a day all across the world on campuses take time to come together to help people and discuss the unique challenges of being first-generation students.
